First Eucharist

This sacrament is the ongoing sign of Jesus' love and presence with us. Through it we are nourished and supported in living a Christian life.

Signs of readiness are a desire to receive Eucharist, ability to distinguish it from ordinary bread, sufficient attention span for the sessions and related preparation book, regular attendance at Mass, and the family's pledge for continuing support for the child in their formation. Parents should begin looking for readiness during the primary grades.

Preparation begins in late winter/spring and includes sessions for parents, family retreat, workbook to be completed at home and a rehearsal. Celebrations of the sacrament occur in late April/early May during the regular weekend liturgies.

Parents who believe their child is ready or is maturing toward readiness, should plan to attend the sacrament information meeting in September. Parents may attend at any of the 3 Rush Henrietta parishes: September 14th at St. Joseph's, September 16th at Guardian Angels and September 22nd at Good Shepherd. The same information will be shared at each and registration forms for the sacraments of Eucharist, Reconciliation and Confirmation will be available. If you have any questions please call the Christian Formation Office, 334-3023 or contact Margaret Churnetski, mchurnet@dor.org.
